Called Shark Bay because supposedly in the past fishermen would come and throw fish heads here which attracted sharks.
But rest assured you will not come across sharks, only big and pretty turtles.
The spot is located on the east coast south of the island of Sal (the main island), the Kitebeach spot, also called Shark Bay or Fragata, is suitable for all levels. It's a huge lagoon that offers plenty of room for freeride enthusiasts, as well as a reef 300 meters from the shore for wave enthusiasts. Watch out for the reef at low tide.
The spot is exposed side-onshore but is absolutely unguarded, so not ideal for starting out on your own, however there are quite a few people in the water so you will never be really alone.
The spot is 15 minutes from Santa Maria by car. You can take a taxi to get there or go there with your rental car.
Do not hesitate to go higher up to the level of the beach in order to isolate yourself a little.
